STEP-G records the largest single order in the company's history
The aluminium specialist ST Extruded Products Group, STEP-G for short, receives from the Volkswagen Group the largest single order in the company's history. The order includes an investment package in the double-digit millions. "With this major order and the corresponding investment volume, STEP-G realizes the largest project in the company's history. This challenge is an extra ordinary opportunity for our company ", announces Michael Zint, Managing Director of STEP-G. Several aluminium extrusion companies were in the race. "Finally we were able to absolutely convince with our performance and have further strengthened our position in the e-mobility market," says Zint.
STEP-G is supplier for e-mobility projects
With this major order STEP-G has received another project for the supply of parts for electric drives. As a global partner for companies in the automotive sector, STEP-G will produce components for the battery frame for vehicles with the MEB modular system of Volkswagen, the so-called Modular Electrification Toolkit. In order to meet the increased market demands for vehicles with alternative drive systems, the developments of the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) like Volkswagen progress steadily. With its many years of experience in highly complex and safety-relevant components for the automotive industry, the OEMs can rely on STEP-G as a competent partner. In addition to produce the aluminium profiles for the battery frame, the order also includes the further processing and surface treatment of the individual components. In this context, STEP-G offers Volkswagen the finished part, completely from a single source. Volkswagen has only one contact person for the project, which makes the handling much easier and thereby further enhancing efficiency.
STEP-G plants benefit and grow with investment
In this fully automated production line, a total tonnage of six-digits will leave the STEP-G plant in Bonn. The complete process includes extrusion to CNC machining, the connected surface treatment (passivation) as well as the connection to the logistics. Thus, STEP-G realises the first such fully automated production line of those kind of high-quality aluminium profiles within the corporate group. With the modernisation of the location in Bonn, the plant can best serve and support its customers in the automotive sector. Especially new technologies for finishing in surface treatment open up new processing possibilities. The dynamic corporate group covers the entire value chain and moves closer to its customers with their requirements. With less handling and just a single point of contact for the customer, the development towards an one-stop manufacturing partner is progressing steadily. This means one contact person for all requirements and the elimination of the different interfaces along the value chain.
As a future-oriented company, STEP-G works with its customers to implement innovative lightweight aluminium solutions. "The upcoming investments show our great commitment to grow together with our customers and partners as well as continuous improving ourselves. This enables us to position ourselves optimally for the future. Only in this way can we focus on the highest product quality as well as expand our expertise and ensure the long-term satisfaction of our customers. “STEP-G continues to move forward successfully and is growing very fast in a very dynamic environment, also as a result of the owners willing to invest", explains Zint. At the moment STEP-G employs about 1,000 people worldwide at five production plants in Germany, Belgium and China. "With currently eleven presses, we see ourselves as one large factory that can serve our customers in the best possible way with particular emphases at the respective plants. Our employees work together on complex customer projects regardless of physical distance", says Zint.
