STEP-G at the ALUMINIUM 2024 in Düsseldorf

| STEP-G

The world-leading trade fair ALUMINIUM takes place this year from 8 to 10 October 2024. The focus is on solutions for automotive manufacturing, machinery construction, the construction industry, aerospace, electronics, packaging and transport. As a major meeting place for the industry and the world’s largest aluminium trade fair, the ALUMINIUM is a fixture in the calendar of the ST Extruded Products Group (STEP-G).

At the ALUMINIUM, STEP-G will present exciting solutions for the entire added value supply chain in road and rail vehicle construction as well as aviation and construction. The key requirements for all component and assembly solutions are lightweight construction, high strength and a low carbon footprint.

STEP-G will focus on the following areas at the ALUMINIUM 2024:

Processed extruded aluminium profiles for battery mounts and housings in the automotive industry

Battery systems for e-vehicles often require various material characteristics for optimal performance. Smart, reliable and efficient components are key in automotive manufacturing. The STEP-G component portfolio includes battery mounts and individual components for fully electric and hybrid vehicles. The company also specialises in housing frames, brake and crash systems and structural chassis components.

STEP-G manufactures processed extruded aluminium profiles for the battery frame installed in fully electric Volkswagen models and the terminal strip for various BMW vehicle series. Both these solutions, in certified automotive qualities, will be on show at the trade fair. In design and production, the company focused especially on the weight-strength ratio, corrosion resistance and further processing options such as CNC machining, surface treatment and logistics. In close collaboration with the customer, STEP-G was able to create fully automated production lines in each case. Especially the new technologies for finishing in surface treatment enable new processing options.

High-complexity large profiles for modern train and rail vehicle construction

Modern trains and underground lines contribute actively to reducing global carbon emissions. In rail vehicle construction, there is also a focus on lightweight solutions. As a manufacturer in the area of rail vehicle construction, STEP-G draws on many years of experience in the extrusion and further processing of high-quality and high-complexity large profiles. In customer-specific projects, from high-speed trains to underground trains, careful planning of structural parts is essential. These include individual profiles as well as complex welded components such as side and end walls as well as roofs and base panels.

STEP-G offers customer-specific assembly and installation. The company puts together ready-made profile kits which can reduce manual work as well as material handling. The train components are manufactured according to the required safety and quality regulations. STEP-G has received Silver certification under the international standard ISO TS 22163 (IRIS) multiple times. In particular the Bonn location has for years successfully supplied safety-relevant large components for wagon construction in line with the principle “Global excellence from a single source”.

The exhibits presented by STEP-G on Stand B24 in Hall 4 at the ALUMINIUM will include a cross section of a wagon and a section of a train side wall. They will reveal the individually extruded and subsequently welded together aluminium profiles used in wagon construction.

Advanced aluminium solutions for aerospace and defence applications

Customers in the aircraft and aviation industry demand high standards of strength, formability and surface quality. This is because lightness, safety and good looks as well as consistent quality are elementary aspects for their applications. Additional properties such as heat and corrosion resistance, mechanical strength, conductivity and weldability are also important. STEP-G offers an extensive range of extruded aluminium profiles for the aviation industry. They include e.g. tank valves and connectors, heat exchangers, landing gear and structural components, fixing systems and hydraulic distributors.

System developments of the company’s own brand and custom solutions for the construction industry

Extruded aluminium profiles also offer lightweight, robust and safe solutions for the construction industry. With its BUG Aluminium-Systeme brand, STEP-G offers an extensive range of profile solutions specifically for the construction industry. The application areas are window ledge systems, flat roof and canopy systems, wood-aluminium and weather protection systems, façade and conservatory systems. At the ALUMINIUM, STEP-G will present its own-brand “System 500”, an easy-to-install, secure window ledge system with coordinated components. The system components combined with the window ledge ensure water tightness under heavy rain for an easy-to-install window ledge solution. A unique feature is the holistic testing of all components in the system. In fulfilling its mission as a system-oriented solution provider, BUG has implemented a technically ingenious, state-of-the-art solution concept for window ledge assembly.

According to STEP-G, the manufacturer can produce not only the “System 500” which will be presented at the trade fair, but also custom profiles. These custom aluminium solutions can be seen in some of the world’s most beautiful buildings.
